The challenge for First Interstate in it's development of Mentor Commons was to properly protect new homes in an adjacent residential neighborhood. Working directly with several well organized neighborhood groups, several unique solutions were developed to meet specific needs of individual neighbors.

The landscaping, architecture and site design for Mentor Commons Shopping Center resulted in the 1994 Mentor Award for Architectural Style in the Outstanding New Commercial Building category.
